The benefits of drinking golden milk

WTF is golden milk??

Golden milk is an ancient drink used in many traditions including Ayurvedic medicine.. In fact, turmeric was so valued that the Sanskrit name Kanchani translates into "the golden princess".  Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric and gives it that bright yellow colour.  It has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is a strong antioxidant.   Golden milk is usually drank warm, but it can be drank iced as well.  

Some of the benefits of drinking golden milk:

· decreases inflammation

· regulates blood sugar

· acts as a pain reliever

· supports digestion

· helps detoxify the liver

Although curcumin is poorly absorbed in the bloodstream, pairing it with black pepper enhances the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%! It is also fat-soluble so adding in coconut oil or butter when using it in cooking is a good idea.  

I love drinking this before bed for a relaxing and calming effect.

Golden Milk

So let's cut to the chase....

Combine all ingredients into a small pot on medium heat.  Heat for 3-5 minutes or until just before boiling point. Serve warm or iced. Enjoy!

* Tip; blend ingredients in the blender first and then add to the pot.

Jenny D's Golden Milk REcipe:

Serves 2-4 people

Tumeric

What you'll need: 

 · 2 cups almond, coconut, or hemp milk

· 1.5 tsp turmeric powder or 2 tsp turmeric paste

· pinch of black pepper

· 1 tbsp raw honey or maple syrup

· 1 tbsp coconut oil

· 1/2 tsp of cinnamon

* Option to add cayenne pepper and fresh ginger.

* I suggest making sure ingredients are organic.
